30-second safety check in the warehouse: This daily routine prevents accidents

In the hectic day-to-day operations of a warehouse, many accidents occur due to small lapses in attention. Yet it doesn’t take much to identify hazards early on: A 30-second safety check before every trip improves workplace safety in the warehouse and helps prevent accidents.

1. Check the forks and attachments (approx. 5 seconds)

The check starts at the front of the industrial truck and focuses on the forks. It’s important that they are aligned straight and show no signs of wear. Something that’s often overlooked: accessories like rubber protective strips or fork extensions for forklifts. Are they properly secured? Or did they shift slightly during the last use?
A quick glance here prevents costly surprises later on and increases warehouse safety.

2. Check the load guard (approx. 5 seconds)

Now take a step back and look up:
Is the load guard secure? Are there any bent struts from an unfortunate contact with the pallet? This quick check ensures that both the operator and the goods remain protected and helps prevent accidents in the warehouse.

3. Tires & Hydraulics (approx. 10 seconds)

Take a 360-degree look around the industrial truck: Are the tires damaged or severely worn?
Did the hydraulics leave an oil leak on the warehouse floor overnight?
Does the mast lift and lower smoothly and evenly?
Checking this daily allows you to spot problems early enough before a small leak turns into major damage.

4. The final check: Is the cargo really secure? (approx. 10 seconds)

Before the forklift starts moving, it’s also worth taking a quick look at the load itself. Many accidents are not caused by driving errors, but because the goods start to slide on the forks. Caution is especially advised with slippery surfaces, damp pallets, or uneven weight distribution.

This is where the GEKKO comes in! The magnetic anti-slip layer ensures that the load stays in place during transport and does not slide forward, backward, or sideways off the forks. Thanks to the integrated magnets on the back of the anti-slip cover, it can be quickly mounted on the fork blade and easily placed on the forklift chassis when not in use.

A 30-second check may seem trivial—until it prevents the first instance of damage.
And that’s exactly why it’s worth doing every day.
