Forklift Retrofit – Which Product Is Right for Me?

Forklifts have to overcome a wide range of challenges in everyday operations: narrow aisles, poor visibility, sensitive goods, long loads, or pallets that slip on the fork tines.

But does that mean you have to invest in a new forklift right away?

Not necessarily. Many problems can be solved specifically with the right forklift accessories. The key is not so much the question “Which accessories do I need?”, but first: “Which problem do I want to solve?”

This post shows typical challenges in everyday logistics and which retrofit solutions can help.

Goods slipping on the forks

The pallet is on the fork ts, and the forklift starts moving. When braking, accelerating, or turning, the load begins to slip.

Particularly smooth, wrapped, or damp surfaces can offer very little grip on the steel tines. Slipping loads not only increase the risk of transport damage but can also become a danger to people in the vicinity.

The right solution: GEKKO anti-slip cover

The GEKKO anti-slip layer increases slip resistance directly on the forks. Thanks to the integrated magnets, it can be mounted within a few seconds and removed when not in use. It also reduces vibrations, e.g. when transporting metal parts, and protects sensitive surfaces.

Damage to sensitive goods

Damage does not always occur during driving. When picking up a load, goods can also strike the back of the fork. Scratches, dents, and damaged packaging are possible consequences.

The right solution: KOALA impact protector

The KOALA impact proector is attached to the back of the fork (magnetically or with Velcro straps) and creates a protective contact surface for sensitive surfaces and high-quality goods.

Lack of visibility when reversing

Tall pallets, narrow aisles, and a lot of pedestrian traffic: visibility is restricted in many forklift applications. Blind spots, and thus dangerous situations, are particularly likely when reversing.

How can the driver see what is happening behind the forklift without having to rely exclusively on mirrors and looking over their shoulder?

The right solution: LUXX rear-view camera

The LUXX rear-view camera expands the field of vision behind the forklift. The camera image is displayed on a monitor in the cab and assists the driver when maneuvering and reversing.

Forks and load out of sight when picking up goods

Visibility can be restricted not only behind the forklift. Tall or wide loads, or the carriage itself, can block the view forward of the forks and the load carrier.

This makes precise entry more difficult and can cause damage to pallets, goods, and shelving.

The right solution: LUXX frontend camera or LIZZARD camera and laser system

The LUXX frontend camera expands the field of vision of the load and forks, thus supporting more precise load handling. Various mounting options for the camera on the forklift are available.

The LIZZARD camera and laser system provides even more orientation. It combines the camera view with a cross-line laser that assists the driver when positioning the fork tines.

The forks are too short for the load carrier

The existing forks are sufficient for normal daily operations. But then comes an extra-long pallet or bulky cargo – and suddenly the necessary length is missing. For occasional use, a complicated change of forks is not always necessary

The right solution: Fork extensions

Fork extensions are slid onto the existing fork tines and secured. This allows a forklift to be flexibly adapted for occasionally longer loads.

If you regularly transport long loads, however, you should check whether permanently longer fork tines are the better solution.
